Finally I got the time to knit myself a pair of socks! I enjoy hill and mountain walking with my husband Tony and my 2 Jack Russell Terriers. I'm often bored by the colours available in commercially made walking socks so I thought it was about time to cheer the mountains up and these are what I came up with.
The wool used here is Woolhunter Luxxie Sock yarn. This is a mix of 80% Merino wool which is famed for its softness and hard wearing qualities and 20% Bamboo fibre which has strength, lightness and the ability to keep hot feet cool!
I made these socks using 100 grams of handpainted Woolhunter Luxxie Sock yarn. This will make one pair of women's medium sized socks for shoe size 4-7/US 6-9. Finished foot length is approx 9½ inches but this can be adjusted by knitting extra/less rows to suit your feet. Similarly the finished foot circumference is 8 inches. You may need more yarn for a larger foot size.
Tension/Gauge is 8 Stitches per inch in stockinette stitch using 1 set (5 pins) of double pointed 2.75 mm/US 2-3 needles. You may wish to adjust the needles up or down to get the correct gauges.
This pattern is for sale from the Woolhunter shop. I can either send it through the post or electronically in pdf format.
