About the Pattern

These socks were made for my neighbour and friend Lou. Lou has a passion for anything and everything to do with ducks so when she asked me for a pair of socks the colourway had to be called Mallard !

The yarn used is Woolhunter Almerino (50% baby Alpaca, 50% Merino) DK wool dyed by myself here in Pembrokeshire.

The patterning represents stylised "ducks' feet" with little claws. They are designed to be a looser fitting sock to cuddle up in or to wear in walking/gardening boots.

N.B. I must be honest and tell you that our expert tester complained that they were too big for his paws !

You just can't please some people.........

"Come on Mum, where's that biscuit ?"

How it's done

I made these socks using a total of 5 x 25 Grams of handpainted Woolhunter Almerino Double Knitting yarn. This will make one pair of women's medium sized socks for shoe size 4-7/US 6-9. Finished foot length is approx 9½ inches but this can be adjusted by knitting extra/less rows to suit your feet. Similarly the finished foot circumference is 8 inches.

Tension/Gauge is 6 Stitches per inch in stockinette stitch using 3 mm/US 2-3 double pointed sock needles. You may wish to adjust the needles up or down to get the correct gauges.

This pattern is for sale from the Woolhunter shop. I can either send it through the post or electronically in pdf format.
