About the Pattern

I designed this sock for my friend Sally and her customers at her Wool Store, Buttons and Bowes in Barnard Castle. Sally gave me some ideas for colourways that she would like with photographs of the local area including the famous Bowes Museum.

The stitchwork features a Van Dyck lace panel. I chose this stitch as the museum has a self portrait of the Old Master.

The pair pictured were made using just one skein of Woolhunter 7525 Sock yarn and the colourway is Bowes Line No 1 .

How it's done

I made these socks using 1 skein (100 grams) of Woolhunter 7525 Sock (75% Superwash Merino/20% Nylon) yarn. Any of my other sock yarns would be suitable provided the skein carries approximately the same meterage. This will make one pair of ladies socks for a shoe size of 4-7 (US 6-9). Finished foot length is approx 9 ½ inches but this can be adjusted by knitting extra/less rows to suit your feet. Similarly the finished foot circumference is 8 inches.

Tension/Gauge is 8 Stitches per inch in stockinette stitch using 1 set (5 pins) of double pointed 2.5 mm/US 2-3 needles. You may wish to adjust the needles up or down to get the correct gauges.

You will also need 1 Large "eyed" darning needle.

This pattern is for sale from the Woolhunter shop. I can either send it through the post or electronically in pdf format.
